How to Get in the Best Shape of Your Life in Your Garage

The hardest part of going to the gym is often getting to the gym. So, why not save time and money by working out at home?

They say you only need about 30 minutes to sneak in a quality workout. However, they don’t tell you that it comes with about an hour’s worth of extra time doing things like driving to the gym, parking, getting changed, and driving home.

Here is how you can put that time to better use by working out in your garage.

Transform Your Space

First of all, you need to turn your garage into a place where you will actually look forward to spending time.

This means it needs to be a comfortable temperature. Not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. You don’t want the temperature in there to force you to take an off-day.

Upgrade climate control by getting an insulated garage door. This will offer you a much higher R-value, which will keep the A/C in over the summer and the heat in over the winter. You don’t want your home’s HVAC system to do all the heavy lifting.

You can also add to the space’s appeal by getting a garage door with windows to let more natural light in. We invite you to learn more at Dodds Garage Doors and find the perfect insulated door for your new home gym.

Trim Your Budget

Part of this exercise is also about getting rid of those expensive gym fees. You don’t want to blow all of your money on brand new workout equipment.

You can save a lot of money by becoming well-acquainted with:

  • Kijiji
  • Facebook Marketplace
  • Garage sales
  • Thrift shops

With a bit of patience and resourcefulness, you can get everything you need for a few hundred dollars or less. You will be amazed at how many people are selling dumbbells and weights, and in a hurry to unload bulky cardio equipment.

Find Your Zen

If yoga is more your speed, you can easily turn your garage into a serene yoga studio.

You will still need all of the climate control we mentioned earlier, but now you will want to add some comfortable flooring and some mirrors. These are also things that you can get second-hand at an amazing price.

Add a TV and Sound System

There is a reason everyone wears headphones at the gym. The music they play over the speakers is almost never your taste, and the plugs for the communal TVs almost never work. Your home gym can fix both of those problems.

This is the final flourish. Again, you don’t need to go brand-new or high-end here. In fact, an iPad and a Bluetooth speaker may be plenty.

Your workout time can also be your time to catch up on your Netflix shows in the comfort of your own home.

There you have it, everything you will need to make a perfect gym. You simply need the right temperature, the right equipment, and the right surroundings to make you wonder why you ever put up with the floors in public showers.
